History

Way back in 1942, W.P.A. worker Daniel Armstrong died trying to protect innocent people from an attack by the Bund-O-Teurs, American Nazi sympathizers with flying tanks. Under normal circumstances, that would have been the end of his story, but his grieving daughter Tillie wasn't a normal girl, and thus that fundamentally decent man became the hero known as The Gentleman, gifted with superhuman strength, flight, and an indomitable spirit.

Over the subsequent decades, he fought many supervillains, including his nemesis, Professor Borzoi, and intervened in many disasters, always saving people. For a time, he was joined by Looney Leo, a living cartoon accidentally brought to life by Borzoi.

Sometime in the 1950's, he teamed up with the Bouncing Beatnik to battle Lord Saampa and his snake cult, in order to prevent them from stealing the Diadem of the Serpent's Eye, a mystical relic that would have unleashed the Oubur. This battle was one of the few in which The Gentleman was weakened, and he was saved only through Tillie's intervention.
